The landscape on Bruny Island is incredibly diverse. Looking for pristine virgin bush, I spent a lot of time around the north of the island and was completely captivated by the grasstrees, or xanthorrhea’s. A very slow growing species, they stand proud and tall at up to 4 or 5 metres high, many of them hundreds of years old.
Acting as sentinels from high vantage points overlooking D’Entrecasteaux Channel, these highly individualistic and quirky trees bursting with character exude a powerful presence.
