When I visited lake St Clare I was over whelmed by 2 things:
COLLECTIVE CONCIOUSNESS
I got a real sense of the past and how the landscape seemed to show its history more than other places I had visited. There was a strong sense of a collective conciousness, it was as if every pebble and stone were loaded with an energy, passed down from all that had come in contact with, people, water, the earth and now me. I looked around and saw others interacting with the environment, did they feel this too? My photograph ATLAS (digital photograph 2011) explores this theme of landscape, Lake St Clare, having a heart and soul of it's own.INTERPRETATION OF ENVIROMENT It was 1994 when I had last visited Lake St Clare and in this time a cafe and 'interpretation' centre had been built. I have mixed feelings about interpretation centres. While it is good to have additional information at hand I can't help but have a sense of sadness that humanity needs to have the natural environment interpreted for us. It's a real indication of how disconnected we have become from the natural world. My painting YOU ARE HERE (acrylic and varnish on board 2011) is in response to this. The natural world has become something that we 'experience' rather than are a part of.
